A Much Needed Break

About 2 weeks ago we took a much needed vacation…  You probably didn’t notice that we were gone because I am fairly inconsistent (slight understatement) when it comes to blogging and updating social media, (still trying to work on that!)  Anyway, Kathy and Mr. Cardiff Farms and my family and I spent the week in Montana for some rest and relaxation.  It was so good to take some time off and just “breath” for a little bit.

I wanted to share some pictures from our wonderful trip, hope you enjoy them!

On the first day, we took a trip to the local trout hatchery which also happens to be at the source of Spring Creek.  Spring Creek runs through Lewistown, MT and is fed by a pristine natural spring that bubbles right out of the ground!

The next day we drove to see Old Faithful in Yellowstone National Park.  It was very crowded but did not disappoint.

For the rest of the trip, we enjoyed Lewistown and had some fun in Spring Creek.

I even learned how to flyfish!

And how can you not relax when you are staying right next to a beautiful rushing creek that you can hear from your windows 24 hours a day?  I wish we could have bottled that sound and brought it back with us.

What a great trip!  We all can’t wait to go back.

We have been busy since we got back though!  Make sure you check out our new online store.  I added a link up at the top right of the blog.  So far we have “Cottage Keepsakes” available and some cute zinnia pin cushion kits.  We will be adding more so check back often.

Have a great day!!

San Francisco 2014

Last week Kathy and Mr. Cardiff Farms took a much needed and well deserved vacation up to San Francisco.  They had an amazing trip and have returned rested and ready to get to work on preparing new material for spring market!  Here are some pictures from the week…

Christmas at The Cottage at Cardiff Farms

In between designing new pin cushions and a new block-of-the-month Kathy has managed to deck the house from top to bottom with Christmas cheer.  Christmas at Cardiff Farms is a special time.  The house is always filled with joy and the wonderful smells of homemade jam, spiced tea, and freshly baked cookies.  Here are a few pictures of some of Kathy’s Christmas trees…

tried to decorate too.  This year I bought my first ever live Christmas wreath to celebrate our first Christmas in our new home.  Although I am very grateful for living in a place with beautiful weather year round, I was a little sad that our recent Santa Ana winds sabotaged my decor efforts after only 6 days on display.  (We did try really hard to keep it moist too.)  Oh well, lesson learned, next year we will invest in a fake wreath 🙂

Hello, Again!

Hi there!  It’s been awhile since we’ve updated the blog and I apologize for not keeping all of you in the loop.  We’ve had some technical issues with our site that I’ve been trying to get under control and so much has happened in the last couple of months that the blog has been severely neglected.  Well, I’ve decided to get a jump start on my New Year’s resolution of whipping this blog into shape… and our facebook page, and our flickr account, and getting on instagram, and, and, and…  So check back often for updates!

Our New Kitchen Garden

Lots of new things going on at the Cardiff Farm!  First of all, my daughter Taylor who works at The Cottage at Cardiff Farms with me is just about ready to have her second child.  Actually, she was ready last Wednesday but the little guy is just too happy where he is and has not decided to join us here yet.  Because of this, Taylor, who does all the writing and creating on the computer, is teaching me how to post on the blog so we can keep everyone up to date while she is getting to know her new little bundle.  It will also give her some time with Isabella, my first grand baby and the love of my life.  I will let everyone have a peek at Taylor and her babies as soon as she is camera ready.

The next exciting thing around here is that my husband, Cal, is actually taking some time off work.  It is so nice having him around.  We love to get our morning coffee and walk the property looking for new projects.  The other morning we came across an area that has never really been much more than a slope.  It’s not too far from the kitchen side of the house so we thought it would be a great place to start a new “kitchen garden”  where we can grow herbs and seasonal veggies that we like to cook with.

Well, the first thing to do was set the bottom row of blocks.  My husband was off to the the brick yard and before I knew it he was calling me out for inspection.  When he gets started on something he goes for it, no messing around!

I did offer to help with the other rows but after trying to lift a block I figured I could better spend my time fixing lunch. After a couple more runs to the brick yard and digging and stacking Cal had finished the rows.  The next morning we got up early, went to the nursery and planted…

I am so excited!  It is a little late in the season for planting some of the veggies but we thought we would give it a try anyway.  The fruit on our farm always ripens about 4 weeks behind some of our neighboring properties just up the road so we might get some young squash and tomatoes before the season is over.  The herbs will be good almost year round so we will be putting in a large variety of those.  As we start picking and cooking I will share some of our favorite recipes.

My time for writing is up for today but check back soon for more new things happening at The Cottage and at Cardiff Farms including some new products you should be seeing at your local quilt shops in the near future.
