We just love this time of year!… decorating, baking, getting together with friends and family… but one of our most favorite things is to escape the hustle and bustle of the holidays by settling in by the fireplace with some hand sewing.  Kathy has created the perfect little project for some cozy, cold-weather sewing…

Great Pumpkin Treat Bag

Happy Halloween!   We have a tradition at our house.  Every year, on Halloween night, all the kids in the family leave their trick-or-treating candy out for the “Great Pumpkin.”  Late that night, after everyone is asleep, he takes the candy, and to the delight of the kids, leaves a special surprise in its place. (This is a great way to get rid of candy by the way.)  Kathy has created this super cute Halloween treat bag to fill with goodies and hang somewhere special, maybe for the “Great Pumpkin.” Wink, wink.

Buttermilk Basin Summer Blog Hop {Day 11}

Today is our day of the Buttermilk Basin Summer Blog Hop!  We have been following along and just LOVE everyone’s adorable designs!  If you haven’t joined in yet check out Buttermilk Basin’s Blog for all the info.

This is our first summer here in the Pacific Northwest and we are absolutely loving it!  The days are long and not too hot but even if it does get hot there are plenty of giant evergreens to provide shade.

Here is our favorite summer potluck recipe…

And Kathy has put together a perfect little summer sewing project for the hop.  Just look at this adorable little piece of watermelon (another potluck favorite)  it looks good enough to take a bite out of!

More Kits… Just in time for Spring!

We don’t know about you, but over here we are so ready for Spring!  Little signs are popping up all around the house and it brings us so much joy!

Signs of Spring

For those of you that don’t know, last August we packed up our things in San Diego, CA and moved all the way up to Southern Washington State!  We will post more about the move another time but I wanted to share all the little bulbs that are popping up around our new house.  You see, I didn’t plant these so they are a wonderful surprise!  I can’t wait to see what they will be!
Signs of Spring

Apparently we need to do some weeding too!

And, just in time for Spring, we’ve restocked the kits for “Wild Hares and Hollyhocks.”  Unfortunately, we sold out of all of the original backgrounds and haven’t been able to find the same wool.  But, Kathy searched and searched and found some gorgeous new wools that we think will be perfect for the project.  It’s hard to tell in the pictures but all of the new wools have beautiful, subtle window panes woven into their designs.

Wild Hares and Hollyhocks

Have you seen the new issue of Primitive Quilts and Projects?!  It is full of BEAUTIFUL projects that will make you ready for springtime.  Our favorite project (though we are a little bit biased) is the wool mat by Kathy, “Wild Hares and Hollyhocks.”

I just love the wild hares tucked in all those colorful hollyhocks!  The magazines are on shelves now, so get a copy for yourself and have an adorable new wool mat done in time for Easter.

We are offering a limited number of kits to make this project on our online store.  We were only able to find a very limited amount of the original background wool but we have made additional kits with some swoon worthy substitutes.  Check them out below…

Snow Happy

It is a cold and wintery January day here in Washington state.  Perfect weather to curl up with a good book and a hot cup of coffee!  Today I was lucky enough to read through my good friend Robin Kingsley’s new book, “Snow Happy.”  The book is filled with adorable little snowmen embroidery designs.  Each little snowman or snow woman has their own unique personality and will surely bring a smile to your face.  There are over fourteen different projects using unique embroideries. The projects come in all sizes and levels of difficulty, perfect for decorating or winter gifting.  My favorite part is how Robin encourages the reader to mix and match her embroidery designs with the different sewing projects throughout the book, the possibilities are endless!

Snow Happy

I love the way she embellished the word “snow” on her pincushion shown on the cover!

Here is a peak at the beautiful snowball quilt found in the book.  Notice the clear and easy-to-read color diagrams.  You also get a peak at my favorite snow person, I feel like we share the same morning hairstyle!

If you love embroidery and whimsical winter designs, this book will surely warm your heart!  Make sure you check out Robin’s website at

The book is published by That Patchwork Place, an imprint of Martingale.

Christmas Joy Blog Hop with Buttermilk Basin

Welcome to our day of the Christmas Joy Blog Hop!  Thank you, Stacy of Buttermilk Basin for putting all of this together.

Fall/Winter is our favorite time of year!  We love to cook and bake here at Cardiff Farms and the cool weather outside makes us want to get into the kitchen and get busy!

Here is our favorite sweet potato side dish.  We LOVE sweet potatoes, they give us an excuse to eat dessert with the main course!

Sweet Potato Casserole

Can you believe the holidays are just around the corner?!  Kathy created this adorable little gift card holder for you to enjoy and it goes together so fast you will be able to make them for everyone on your list before Christmas.  The adorable background decorations for the photos are courtesy of The Country Loft in La Mesa, California…
