Great Pumpkin Treat Bag

Happy Halloween!   We have a tradition at our house.  Every year, on Halloween night, all the kids in the family leave their trick-or-treating candy out for the “Great Pumpkin.”  Late that night, after everyone is asleep, he takes the candy, and to the delight of the kids, leaves a special surprise in its place. (This is a great way to get rid of candy by the way.)  Kathy has created this super cute Halloween treat bag to fill with goodies and hang somewhere special, maybe for the “Great Pumpkin.” Wink, wink.

Summer Time Blog Hop

Welcome to our day on the Summer Time Blog Hop!  We are so excited to have you here and we hope that you enjoy our recipe and pattern!

Out here in Southern California our summers can be HOT so we love to include cool, refreshing foods with our meals.  This sweet and tangy fruit salad is a great addition to any meal – breakfast, lunch, or dinner and is soooo yummy we even have it for dessert sometime.

We mix mangos, kiwis, and blueberries together and top with a delicious lime syrup and sprinkling of crystalized ginger.  Check out Stacy’s blog for the recipe card.

A Primitive Christmas Blog Hop

This is our first time ever participating in a blog hop and we are so excited!  We had so much fun planning and preparing, we hope you like what we have in store!  If you haven’t been following along so far make sure you check out Buttermilk Basin’s Blog for all the details… you can click on the “Primitive Christmas Blog Hop” Button on the right hand side.

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas over here at the Cottage at Cardiff Farms!  Decorations are going up and we’ve finally had a bit of cold weather this past week which has been perfect for making our extra special spiced tea.  Whenever a chill is in the air we fill a pot on the stove with this simple recipe.  The sweet and spicy aroma fills the house and warms the heart.

It is best served piping hot and in the company of good friends…

And, Kathy created this beautiful little hand stitched mug mat to go with your cup of tea…
Noel Mug Mat

Isn’t it just the perfect little Christmas mat!?  While trying to find a way to make a template for the specialized writing we wanted on it, we stumbled upon THIS entry from Sweet P’s Blog.  How is it that we have never heard of using Glad Press n’ Seal for transfers!?  To say that this has completely changed our whole world of hand stitching is an understatement.  Be ready for some exciting brand new designs inspired by this technique.  But, for now, here is a quick demo with the Noel Mug Mat…

First-ever Facebook Giveaway

A couple of weeks ago we did our first-ever Facebook giveaway.  We gave one lucky winner a copy of our new pincushion book “More Cottage Keepsakes” and a cute little kit for the July pin cushion “Burst of Americana.”
July Giveaway

We wrote down all of the participant’s names and had one of our little helpers draw from a hat (or a glass bowl.)  Congratulations to Louise Warren, our first Facebook winner!

Catching Up

Well, I guess it’s time to dust off the old blog and catch all of you up with what we’ve been doing.  I can’t believe the last post was from before market, it seems like it was soooo long ago cause we have been soooo busy!  Let’s see, where do I begin, I guess Market would be a good place.

This year’s Spring Quilt Market was in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.  It was my first time visiting Pittsburgh and I was pleasantly surprised at what a beautiful city it is.  For those of you that have never been there, it is surrounded by three rivers, The Allegheny, Monongahela, and Ohio and beyond that is lush green forest.  I didn’t really get any good pictures of the city because it was pretty cold and rainy the whole time we were there, but it seemed like a neat place.

Market was fun and BUSY as usual.  This year we were in the most amazing location. We were next door to Primitive Gatherings and Laundry Basket Quilts and two booths away from Moda Fabrics, and if you don’t know, all three of those are pretty much “Quilt Market Royalty!”  We were also next door to some other California girls you might know, Joan with “Bits and Pieces by Joan,” Cathy with “Heart to Hand,” and Suzanne with “Suzanne’s Art House,” they made Market super fun!  We had our own little So Cal aisle.

“Here are some pictures of our booth… it’s so hard to get more pictures at Market, I try every time but we always end up being too busy, (which is a good thing.)

And here is my lost luggage delivered a couple days after we got back….

Lost Baggage

Thank goodness!!! It was the bag with the wool!

I think we took maybe a day and a half to rest from Market and got to work right away on finishing up the new pincushion book we’ve had in the works.

It’s done!! All printed and ready to ship.  We’ve already shipped out quite a few so make sure you check with your local quilt store to see if they carry it.

I LOVE the way it turned out!  I think I might even like it better than the first one.

Packing for Spring Quilt Market 2014

What a crazy morning!  Kathy got a call early this morning saying that all of our stuff (for our Quilt Market booth in Pittsburgh next week) had to be at the warehouse for crating before lunch today… up until this moment we thought our deadline was for tomorrow morning!  Needless to say we spent the better part of today running around like chickens with their heads cut off.  Thankfully all the material had been pulled but trying to get it into boxes was a little harder than we expected.  We are not sure if the garage will ever recover…

One Windy Week

The wind this week has been a little crazy.  In Southern California we are accustomed to the seasonal Santa Ana winds but lately they have been on steroids.  They have been breaking records all over the county and yesterday I heard on the news that in some areas of the hills/mountains gusts of over 100mph had been recorded.  It’s like a sunshine hurricane.

Here are some pictures of Kathy’s palm trees, before and during a gust…

Fun April Pin Pals

Last Saturday’s Pin Pal’s gatherings were so much fun.  Everyone had a good time choosing their colors for their Zinnia pin rest.  Kathy was SUPER busy last Friday night cutting all the cute little kits…

Sharing time!  Here is a picture of Kathy P.’s beautiful Forget Me Not wool mat that she shared with everyone at the last pin pals’ gathering.  I love the contrasting thread she chose to outline the brightly colored wools.
