We just love this time of year!… decorating, baking, getting together with friends and family… but one of our most favorite things is to escape the hustle and bustle of the holidays by settling in by the fireplace with some hand sewing.  Kathy has created the perfect little project for some cozy, cold-weather sewing…

This cute little wool mat is perfect for placing under a plate of cookies made for a special someone.

Great Pumpkin Treat Bag

Happy Halloween!   We have a tradition at our house.  Every year, on Halloween night, all the kids in the family leave their trick-or-treating candy out for the “Great Pumpkin.”  Late that night, after everyone is asleep, he takes the candy, and to the delight of the kids, leaves a special surprise in its place. (This is a great way to get rid of candy by the way.)  Kathy has created this super cute Halloween treat bag to fill with goodies and hang somewhere special, maybe for the “Great Pumpkin.” Wink, wink.

Spring Thyme Blog Hop

Today is our day on the Spring Thyme Blog Hop sponsored by Stacy of Buttermilk Basin and Kathy has prepared a special pattern and yummy recipe for everyone!  We know a lot of you are stuck in the cold right now so we are hoping to send a little sunshine your way.  Spring is already in full swing here at Cardiff Farms, the SoCal sunshine has brought out bits of color in every corner of the garden.

And here is our recipe for mouth watering blueberry torte…

We featured this recipe a few years ago but it’s just too good not to mention again.  This is a favorite among all of the men in our house and is often requested for birthdays instead of cake.

Remember don’t bake the crust until filled!

Once cooled, top with blueberries and enjoy!

Now we have a little confession to make… we cheated a little and opened up our favorite can of Comstock Blueberry Pie Filling for the topping.  I don’t think the boys will mind and it can remain our little secret. wink, wink.

Pin A Posy

Have you seen the new issue of American Patchwork and Quilting (April 2015)?  We’re inside!  Kathy designed the adorable “Pin a Posy” pincushion on page 58.  This little pincushion is sure to brighten any sewing room and would make a great gift for someone special.

We are also offering kits to complete this project in our online store.  (Link in the sidebar)  They contain everything you need to make this cute pinkeep.

If you hop on over to our Facebook page we are giving away one of these kits to a lucky Facebook fan and there’s still time to enter if you haven’t done so already!

Another exciting feature in this issue of American Patchwork and Quilting are the instructions for this year’s Quilt-Along.  There are three different options all featuring four-patches.  We missed out on last year’s quilt-along so we are super excited to be a part of it for 2015.  We picked fabric from Lisa Bongean’s new “Snowman Gatherings II” line.  We have so many exciting things going on this year that we are hoping if we start making our four patches now, we might be done by Christmas!  Are you going to quilt-along?  Make sure you use the social media hashtag #APQQuiltalong so that everyone can see your progress!

We have even more exciting news… we will be participating in Buttermilk Basin’s Spring Bloghop!  If you followed along for the Christmas bloghop you know that this was super fun!  We sure are looking forward to all of the beautiful Spring posts from many talented designers.  Make sure you mark your calendar for March 1st!

First-ever Facebook Giveaway

A couple of weeks ago we did our first-ever Facebook giveaway.  We gave one lucky winner a copy of our new pincushion book “More Cottage Keepsakes” and a cute little kit for the July pin cushion “Burst of Americana.”
July Giveaway

We wrote down all of the participant’s names and had one of our little helpers draw from a hat (or a glass bowl.)  Congratulations to Louise Warren, our first Facebook winner!

We were so excited at the response to it all and had so much fun looking through all the comments that we decided we should make it a monthly thing!!  So make sure to “Like” us on Facebook so you can follow our page and participate in the next giveaway in August!

Packing for Spring Quilt Market 2014

What a crazy morning!  Kathy got a call early this morning saying that all of our stuff (for our Quilt Market booth in Pittsburgh next week) had to be at the warehouse for crating before lunch today… up until this moment we thought our deadline was for tomorrow morning!  Needless to say we spent the better part of today running around like chickens with their heads cut off.  Thankfully all the material had been pulled but trying to get it into boxes was a little harder than we expected.  We are not sure if the garage will ever recover…

Fun April Pin Pals

Last Saturday’s Pin Pal’s gatherings were so much fun.  Everyone had a good time choosing their colors for their Zinnia pin rest.  Kathy was SUPER busy last Friday night cutting all the cute little kits…

Springtime at Cardiff Farms

We have been so busy over here, running around trying to get ready for Quilt Market next month and still trying to effectively handle all the little surprises life throws at you when you’re not looking… it has been a little crazy.  Every once in a awhile we run into something that reminds us to slow down and take in all the beauty around us and the little miracles that we might miss out on if we are not paying attention.

Outside Kathy’s studio…

Sharing time!  Here is a picture of Kathy P.’s beautiful Forget Me Not wool mat that she shared with everyone at the last pin pals’ gathering.  I love the contrasting thread she chose to outline the brightly colored wools.

We always love to see how students make The Cottage at Cardiff Farms’ projects their own!

Cottage Keepsakes

So, last year we really slacked off on keeping up the blog, (and when I say “we,” I mean “I“.)  And I just realized we never posted about our pin cushion book.  We are already hard at work on our second book but I still wanted to share our first one with you because we know you love pin cushions as much as we do!

The spiral bound, 65 page book contains twelve pin cushion projects (hint: there are 12 months in the year) and lots of color pictures.  There is definitely something for everyone with adorable designs in both cotton and wool.

Here are some pictures of the book…
